Nokia to Halve Accessory Suppliers

In an effort to further strengthen the management efficiency of its supply chain and to reduce its production costs, the Finland-based phone company plans to cut its accessory suppliers by half from 10 to 5, according to insider sources from Taiwan’s handset component makers.

Apparently, Nokia intends to cease its long-time partnership with suppliers of power supply devices, hands-free and Bluetooth-enabled headsets, and focus on suppliers who are strong in technology, quality control, delivery and finance instead. The source claimed that Nokia currently purchases hands-free devices, Bluetooth headsets and speakers from 7-8 suppliers, including Japan-based Foster Electric, US-based Plantronics and Taiwan-based Merry Electronics and Foxlink, indicated the sources, noting that those suppliers are likely to be cut to 3-4.
