You probably aren’t familiar with the name Zynga, but you’ve likely played at least one of its games.
Farmville, Mafia Wars, Fishville and many more Facebook/MySpace games netted the company a quarter of a billion dollars in 2009 alone. With more active users than Twitter, it’s nothing to sniff at.
The company entered the spotlight recently after Techcrunch published an article called “Scamville” last October. This referred to Zynga’s collection of personal information through profiles and surveys users completed to obtain virtual coins. Zynga’s actions included charging users $10 monthly for mobile-subscription services disguised as quizzes. What are your thoughts? Have you fallen for similar scams to obtain your personal information?
