Stylus producer Ten One Design – best known for their Pogo stylus, that works with the capacitive touchscreens used on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad – has demonstrated an app which would allow iOS based devices to respond to pen pressure. Like on a professional graphics tablet, that would allow iPad artists to adjust line-thickness depending on how hard they pressed.

Ten One say they plan to release the pressure-sensitivity as a free software library which can be used in any application based on iOS. Unfortunately, right now they’re relying on a private function call in order to make it work; as I’ve seen before, Apple’s App Store guardians don’t generally look on such calls favorably, and that could stop any app relying on the new framework from getting approved for official distribution.
